Farewell to Our 2023 Graduate - Xiaohan Yin
We bid farewell to Xiaohan Yin, who graduated from our research group in Summer 2023. During her time with us, she made significant contributions to our research on ionospheric remote sensing.
Research Highlights
Her key achievement was demonstrating that the peak height of the F2 region (hmF$_2$) can be determined globally by measuring the intensity ratio of atomic oxygen 130.4 and 135.6 nm emissions in far-ultraviolet nightglow using nadir-viewing photometers on CubeSats. Through numerical simulations, she established that observations from ~400 km altitude enable hmF$_2$ retrieval with errors of only a few kilometers (up to ~20 km). Her pioneering work, published in Earth and Planetary Physics, has paved the way for global-scale monitoring of the nighttime ionosphere at mid to low latitudes.
